Dowling,
Carlos Tomás
(1916-1995), theatrical designer, was born in Buenos Aires, the third son of
Francisco Dowling (d.1935) and María Cecilia García
Tuñón, and grandson of Juan Bautista
Dowling (1840-1897), landowner and military commander of Carmen
de Areco, and his wife Isabel Kennedy (1844-1896).
During forty years
Carlos T. Dowling contributed to more than sixty Argentine
movies. Dowling was responsible for the adaptation of María
de los Ángeles (1948) and Lucrecia Borgia
(1947).
He also worked on the stage scene of
En busca del brillante perdido (1986), Noches sin lunas
ni soles (1984), Buenos Aires Tango (1982),
El deseo de
vivir (1973), La Tierra del Fuego se apaga (1955),
Una
ventana a la vida (1953), El regreso (1950),
Buenos Aires
a la vista (1950), El crimen de Oribe (1950),
Nace la
libertad (1949), among others.
