Overview
The Connacht Tribune (Galway), 29 June 2007 |
The first conference of the Society for Irish Latin
American Studies, Adventurers, Emissaries
and Settlers: Ireland and Latin America was held on
27-30 June 2007 in Galway. The conference was the first of
its kind, and attracted scholars, students and independent
researchers of Ireland-Latin America relations. Papers
included various aspects of the multitudinous connections
between Latin America and Ireland mainly in history and
literature. The SILAS conference took place concurrently and
in conjunction with the Fifth Galway Conference on
Colonialism.
SILAS is extremely grateful
to the Centre for Irish Studies at NUI Galway, the Irish
Department of Foreign Affairs, the Brazilian Embassy to
Ireland, and Smurfit Kappa plc for their support of the
conference.
Organisers: Oliver Marshall
and Claire Healy.
